  Her morning sickness and even bouts of dizzying had not come back since “the thing” and she had no strange cravings.

  It bothered her to death and she was tempted to confide in Kimberly, but for some reason she really wanted to confide in Parker because she liked his face light up when she spoke about the baby.

  ‘Hell, why don’t you just tell him you miss him? You could email his phone. You know he gets the messages because he’s responded to the messages from his workers through it. He’s alive, you just haven’t seen him and you want to.’

  And it wasn’t just because of the sex. She missed talking to him. She missed him trying to make her happy.

  She was sure she could keep her emotions in check when it came to feeling what she had felt sexually because she now understood imaginary sickness had been arousal and if she had kept it in check before, she was sure she could keep it in check when he returned.

  With an hour to get off of work, she hurried through all the paperwork and then was about to shut down when the computer let off a beep to alert her that an email had arrived.

  It was noted as urgent, but she only worried a little.

  Surprised that it was an email from Parker’s cell phone, she couldn’t read fast enough to understand and had to actually read out loud the second time to make herself slow down.

  “Dear Charisse,” he wrote.

  Just knowing he typed her name sent her heart racing and she swallowed hoping she could get through this again. What did he mean she was relieved of her duties effective immediately?

  I know my absence has been felt; although, I know you’re keeping your concern to yourself since you hide your emotions so well.

  She didn’t know if she should be offended that he knew her well because she had been very worried but had not expressed this to anyone.

  These last few days have been difficult for me personally for several reasons because of my marriage problems and other issues that have surfaced since then.

  Guilt filled her because she had a feeling that taking advantage of him in his drunken state had played a serious head game for Parker, who was already messed up from the earlier events that Onyx Heart had revealed to him.

  Getting to business: Upon advice from legal counsel I must immediately release you of your employment from my company. I have already hired several others to take your place and they will be moving in my new office tomorrow, while movers will arrive at the house to take my business computer, file cabinets, chair and desk, so I may have somewhere to work away from until further notice. Please know my sincere thank you in helping me has been an asset to my company and my employees.

  Charisse noted that he didn’t say anything about his feelings toward her working for him.

  Yet with upcoming events with your sisters, I should be ready to put myself in a position so I will not make things worse.

  Secondly, she noted he said sisters, so he was referring to Cheyenne and Chyna. Yet excluded Charisse in his problems. So he suspected Charisse was not part of any of his problems.

  Personally, I do miss our conversations. They’ve been mentally stimulating and I haven’t had that in a very long time. I even miss your sarcasm and embarrassing honesty. Most of all, I miss trying to make you happy and you faking it.

  Even though this was the second time reading it, she blushed again at that sentence liking how her body tingled at the thought of him liking anything about her.

  I hope you will still want me to chaperone you tomorrow night. I checked with the courts and saw you gave your approval for my presence and up until the time I pressed sent on this email, no other actions have been changed for the meeting with Cheyenne. I should be by the house thirty minutes before time to pick you up for dinner.

  She jealousy wondered if he was taking her to be with her or to see Cheyenne. ‘It ain’t you he wants to see,’ she said to herself with her mother’s voice in her head. ‘You ain’t got nothing no one wants to be with.’ Her mother’s evil cackled inside her head making it hurt slightly.

  I hope you are doing well and since you haven’t contacted Dr. Redmond for anything, I pray the baby is fine as well, but I know Rochelle has taken good care of you and any medical needs you may have had.

  I really do apologize for my absence and the abruptness of your employment. I will be happy to write you a shining reference and refer you to several employers who would gladly hire you based on my reference alone.

  As events unfold the last thing I need you to do is stress. If you haven’t been told yet, the money left for you has been almost depleted. You are not only my sister-in-law, but the mother of my child.

  Charisse’s heart beat even faster and lovingly she placed her hand on her stomach because of the butterflies that felt like they were crazy right under her skin.

  For you sacrifice, I will provide full medical and living expenses while you carry our child and even afterwards with your help that I will still insist upon, I would pay you to help stay with our child. I don’t know at that point where Chyna and I will be, but I know that your assistance and your presence will be needed.

  Did he know what he was asking?

  I know this is asking a lot.

  It was and she didn’t know how to respond to that.

  You don’t have to answer me now about this one. I want you to think about it because it’s a serious decision because I know you get sick of my niceness and would like to be left alone after you deliver the baby. We can agree to a time limit. I’m not asking for a lifetime, Charisse - maybe a year at least.

  She chewed at the inside of her lip in anxiety thirdly noting that he didn't sign it or put his signature line at the bottom. This was a deliberate action because the signature line was automatic which meant he clearly unchecked the box before sending. The note was meant to be personal, intimate - just for her.

  'You're reading too much into this,” she cursed to herself.

  Pressing reply, she laid her fingers over the keyboard and started to type a response to his immediate matters using her most formal voice.

  Dear Parker,

  I will see you tomorrow night for the meeting with Cheyenne.

  Before going to bed tonight, I will pack away the computer, make sure the file cabinet is secure and tape all drawers on the desk, so your items may be moved safely.

  Thank you for your concern for the baby and your generosity for my condition until I can plan for something else.

  Pressing send, she knew the letter was distant and cold, but she knew in this situation because of her deception, she needed to stay as far away from any close involvement with Parker. This was better for the both of them.

  Staying away from the house because of his wife was about the best decision that could have been made at this time. She was curious as to why he came to this decision and what was really going on in his mind, but the fact that he didn’t suspect her put her guard down and she knew she could be in his company because he didn’t know.
